Mozilla has stated that it wants to set a new world record when it releases the latest version of its Firefox internet browser. mozilla-firefox-so-design-1024x768

The company has coined the new term 'Download Day' and plans to get the most downloads ever for its new Firefox 3 web browser in the first 24 hours of it being available.

Call me a cynic but I think it might just do it as there is no official record to actually beat. However, they do hope to beat the amount of downloads for its previous version Firefox 2, which have been reported as being 1.6 million - it will be judged by our friends from Guinness.

If you are interested in Firefox and would like to know which is the safer browser from either Internet Explorer or Firefox. Check out this article from Kenneth van Wyk of Datamation which should help give you a steer.

If you want to get involved in the world record attempt then use this link to the Download Day website. You will then be contacted by email once the date for the official attempt has been finalised.

As at the time of writing they have had 588,380 people registering to take part. I think we can all watch this with interest.
